13.1 miles. 21.1 kilometers. And trust me, all these words of my non-running friends back home echoed in my mind the whole way (especially mile ten…mile ten was really rough with the rain beating down on us!). The words were this, “Why would you run a half marathon? That’s just crazy!”
They were right, but I knew why I was running. I’m the kind of person who needs BIG goals to help motivate me to prioritize daily fitness and exercise.
I’m preparing to travel from the US to Zimbabwe in December to keep working on this project with Hwata Secondary School. This is what some may see as a “crazy” goal.
The last time I visited this high school, back in June 2015, the students asked me several interesting questions,
“Does everyone in America have big hair like you?”
“What do you do?”
I’m a teacher. Like your teachers here. I just teach younger children, 1st and 2nd grade.
“Why are you here?”
It was that last question that still haunts me to this day.
I was there, and I’m going back, because there is a need.
Several high school students in Zimbabwe need to know that not only is there hope, but they can transform their lives through education.
This is what my December trip is aiming to accomplish:
-Begin a school garden
-Provide essential school supplies
Will you partner with me in this “crazy” dream?!
