[Day 5-11] Books, Classrooms, and Coming Full Circle

As I’m writing this, I’m on day 12 of my trip, so clearly, I’m a couple days behind! But I figured I’d take the time to recap what’s been going on in the past few days of my trip.

Last week, I spent some time at a school that’s special to my heart. Three years ago, when I was graduating from college, I had an idea to do a book drive. It ended up blossoming into something that was SO much bigger than I originally envisioned! I just wanted to collect a few dozen books, but I ended up having a couple thousand donated.

So this past week, I got to spend time in the elementary school and at the college that directly benefited from the book drive. These schools are located in the western Zimbabwe.

My favorite part was when I got to share a story with the children in a third-grade classroom. The kids were fantastic, and I just appreciated their enthusiasm and their warm acceptance of me (despite my “accent” hah!).

Additionally, I got to speak to a class of future pastors, and encourage them to follow the passions that God has placed in their hearts. I firmly believe that anything is possible with a little determination and a lot of faith!

The books donated a couple years ago are now mixed in with the library’s ever-growing collections 🙂

Overall, it’s been an encouraging week for me. I think I’ve come full circle to see that when you’ve got a dream to change the world for the better, God can really multiply your efforts and impact.

I’ve now traveled to the capital, Harare, and soon I’ll be headed to the Hwata School to complete the main purpose of my trip! I’m so excited to be apart of the effort to make the Hwata Secondary School a sustainable school.

If you are interested in supporting the project, it’s not too late! You can still donate at tinevimbo.org/donate 🙂

More updates are coming soon!
